Bologna City Run 2027: registrations open for the 5 km that supports research

On Sunday, March 7 the non-competitive 5 km of the Termal Bologna Marathon is back: open to everyone, to enjoy Bologna and support research at the University of Bologna.

On March 7 the non-competitive run of the Termal Bologna Marathon is back. An event open to everyone, to experience Bologna and make a real contribution to research at the University of Bologna.

Registrations are now officially open for the Bologna City Run 2027, the non-competitive 5 km run that will bring the historic centre to life on Sunday, March 7, 2027, during the Termal Bologna Marathon.

An event for everyone: runners, families, children, groups of friends and anyone who wants to enjoy a day of sport and togetherness, running or walking with no pressure from the clock.

But the Bologna City Run is much more than a run. It is a project that brings together sport, solidarity and scientific research, turning the participation of thousands of people into a real opportunity to support the new generations of researchers at the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna.

The Move2Health research project is born from the Bologna City Run 2026

The value of this commitment was presented on October 27 at a meeting held in the Auditorium Biagi of the Biblioteca Salaborsa, attended by representatives of the Municipality of Bologna, the University of Bologna and the partners of the initiative.

Thanks to the 3,000 participants of the Bologna City Run 2026, 15,000 euros were raised to fund the Move2Health research project, winner of the University's "Nuove Generazioni" (New Generations) call.

Promoted by the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering "Guglielmo Marconi" (DEI), the project will study the role of movement in early childhood as a key element for lifelong well-being, using accessible digital technologies in educational settings.

Move2Health is the first step towards a multi-year observatory dedicated to the new generations, and shows how even a simple gesture, like taking part in a city run, can help generate knowledge and benefits for the whole community.

Where research runs free: every step supports research

"Where research runs free" is the message that will accompany the Bologna City Run 2027.

An invitation to run together in support of the freedom of scientific research, knowledge and progress, recognising the daily commitment of the researchers working to improve everyone's future.

The collaboration between Bologna Sport Marathon and the University of Bologna, renewed for the three years 2027–2029 with the involvement of the Municipality of Bologna, strengthens a project that aims to keep growing, involving more and more people and creating new opportunities for the area.

For 2027, Emil Banca once again confirms its support for the event as Main Partner, renewing a commitment that puts sport, participation and community well-being at the centre.

The next edition will also welcome Accendi luce & gas as Presenting Partner of the Bologna City Run 5Km.

A new partnership built on shared values such as energy, solidarity and participation, which will make the race experience even more engaging.
