Termal Bologna Marathon medals presented

The beautiful Council Hall of the Palazzo della Mercanzia hosted today the press conference to present the medals of the Termal Bologna Marathon, where the memento was revealed that will be worn by the 7,000 athletes who will run the three Fidal distances of 21.097 km, 30 km and 42.195 km on March 2.

The honors were given by the President of the Bologna Chamber of Commerce Valerio Veronesi who, together with the President of Termal Bologna Marathon Teresa Lopilato welcomed those present and underlined the satisfaction of collaborating with this great event now upon us.

Valerio Veronesi President of the Bologna Chamber of Commerce: “The depiction of Palazzo della Mercanzia in the official medal of the Bologna Marathon makes us proud. Palazzo della Mercanzia is the home of Bologna businesses, businesses that run, manage their energy to reach competitive and challenging goals and theirs has never been a solitary race. Important decisions on the airport, trade fair, ring road, agri-food center have passed through here. From here, the seat of the Bologna Chamber of Commerce, ideas and solutions for tomorrow's businesses still pass today. It is the place where the future of local companies is thought and built and where every entrepreneur, in opportunities and challenges, knows they have someone they can count on. And all those who promote the Bologna system, such as Bologna Marathon, can count on us too”. Teresa Lopilato President of Termal Bologna Marathon: “Running in Bologna means immersing yourself in a city that combines tradition and innovation, history and future. This edition's medal, with the depiction of Palazzo della Mercanzia on the front and a QR code on the back, celebrates this ability to create, collaborate, connect. The goal of the Termal Bologna Marathon is to become an increasingly international event capable of involving the entire city to show and enhance its roots, culture, businesses and territory. ‘Taste the Run’ is our invitation to experience Bologna through sport, to savor its essence and to conquer, kilometer after kilometer, the finish line".

After lifting the curtain that hid the medals, Fabio Cavallari, marketing and communication manager of Bologna Marathon, spoke and illustrated them. Marco Checchi, CEO of Pelliconi, also spoke, exclusive partner of the medal already in 2023, when it was given to Lucio Dalla and in 2024 with the one dedicated to Bologna “la turrita”.

Marco Checchi, CEO of Pelliconi: “Thanks to President Veronesi and the Chamber of Commerce for their hospitality, I find great affinity with the marathon: commitment and overcoming their limits, just as all the companies in Bologna try to do. We are happy to be close to this Termal Bologna Marathon so that we can increasingly bring the name of Bologna abroad”.

The medal and the golden tagliatella

The partnership with Calabrian graphic and web designer Paolo Niutta (Capselling) who, after the success of those of 2023 and 2024, created the 2025 finisher medal. The front is engraved with the Palazzo della Mercanzia, also known as Loggia dei Mercanti or Palazzo del Carrobbio, which overlooks the square of the same name, which later became the seat of the Chamber of Commerce and inside which the Tagliatella d'Oro is kept.

The latter is a pure gold object deposited in 1972 by Francesco Majani and Alcino Cesari, on behalf of the Academy of Italian Cuisine, which serves as an absolute reference for how wide the real tagliatella bolognese must be before cooking, precisely 8 mm, while the length can vary as desired. The tagliatella d'oro is graphically recalled at the foot of the building as well as the base from which the writing Finisher is obtained, as well as on the upper frame of the medal. The back of the medal features Oscar Wilde's phrase "I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best" and a QR code to be discovered. The medal is entrusted with the task of freezing the emotions of arriving at the finish line, when each runner collects fatigue and sweat to transform them into joy.

Bologna Sport Marathon, after thanking those present and the many organizations that allow this great event to be, in its fourth edition, already among the most important national running events and among the most appealing at an international level, involved Elena Spinsi, aka @bastachesiapasta, a Bolognese sfoglina doc and young "godmother" of the event, to reveal the medals.

Elena Spinsi @bastachesiapasta: “I am a sfoglina 2.0, I look at tradition but I try to share it on social media. There is a desire to spread fresh pasta, as a sfoglina, throughout Italy but also abroad and through social content we promote this tagliatella that here in the Chamber of Commerce is preserved the official 8mm. I will get my hands dirty rolling the pasta in Piazza Maggiore during the marathon”.

Taste the Run - A tribute to gastronomic culture
The claim of this edition of the Termal Bologna Marathon, already reported on the Joma t-shirts that will be given to all participants, is “Taste the Run” an invitation to experience a true celebration of the “palate” and sport, to enjoy the Bologna Marathon Event and at the same time to discover the flavors of a unique city like Bologna

A city that is also called "La Grassa", and that will be told to runners from all over the world as the Italian gastronomic city par excellence, with a very long tradition that can boast hundreds of centuries of history and culinary culture, whose tasty and traditional dishes have made millions of people fall in love over the years. And the medal tells a bit of all this.

Palazzo della Mercanzia
Palazzo della Mercanzia, represented in the three medals of the Termal Bologna Marathon, is the seat of the Bologna Chamber of Commerce, the “home of Bolognese businesses”, chosen by the Accademia Italiana della Cucina as the place designated to preserve the recipes of some typical gastronomic dishes that are part of the history and culinary art of Bologna and that are known throughout the world. From 1972 to today, the Accademia, each time after a course of study and research, has deposited 34 recipes: tortellini and tagliatelle, ragù, cotoletta alla bolognese and many other dishes to be passed down to history. Food is sociality, sharing, culture, a sense of belonging, identity, it can represent the transmission of values of the history of a territory, of entrepreneurs, workers, of businesses. Food is a vehicle of knowledge, a business card, a showcase; and these historic recipes contribute to making Bologna known and appreciated throughout the world.
