HypER 5 Marathon: Emilia-Romagna’s major marathons join sport and tourism
We interviewed Stefano Soverini, along with Cecilia Lolli from the Bologna Marathon Academy, to learn more about the UnipolMove Run Tune Up, which will reach its 20th edition on March 3rd.
Here's what Stefano shared with us:
"This year marks the twentieth anniversary of the half marathon. There are no specific celebrations planned for this particular milestone, but the uniqueness of this edition comes from the public's response: if last year we reached the limit of 1500 participants by mid-January, this year we have decided to increase the quota to 3000, and the numbers are moving in that direction.
We expect around 250 participants from abroad, and roughly half of the total reside in the region. Once in the city, specifically at Piazza Maggiore, we look forward to welcoming you to the frescoed halls of Palazzo d'Accursio for the bib and race packet distribution. Whether you come alone or with company, whether you arrive a day before or on the same Sunday, our partner association 'Succede solo a Bologna' organizes free guided tours.
For those who want to stretch their legs, clear their minds, and achieve their best time, come to Bologna! The UnipolMove Run Tune Up starts from via Indipendenza, gently descending towards the outskirts and its long straight stretches. Due to traffic considerations, the half marathon course follows the second half of the marathon route. The marathon, half marathon, and 30 km routes merge in via Ferrarese.
UnipolMove Run Tune Up is not just a sporting event; it's a cultural one. We are the most "musical" half marathon! Initially, we organized a single large free concert, but we adapted to the times: last year, we wanted to remember Lucio Dalla, and this year, we are working to involve various musical bands scattered around the city to enhance the event. Stay tuned!
An interesting fact: In 2016, to run the twenty-one kilometers, after recording a program in Rome with Baglioni until late at night, Gianni Morandi had a van set up with a mattress and traveled through the night to wake up in the morning at Piazza VIII agosto, near the starting point of the half marathon. That's passion for sports!"
