BOLOGNA CITY RUN 2026 — 5 KM OF ENERGY, SOLIDARITY AND RESEARCH
Sunday, March 1, 2026 – Piazza Maggiore, Bologna
A run for the freedom of scientific research.
The Bologna City Run returns, the non-competitive 5 km run open to everyone, included in the program of the 5th edition of the Termal Bologna Marathon, this year dedicated to “Bologna la Dotta”: a tribute to knowledge, culture and the role of the University in the history of the city.
“Where research runs free” – Where research runs free
Together with the University of Bologna, institutional partner of the initiative, the City Run promotes the value of scientific freedom and knowledge as a common good, capable of generating innovation, rights and progress for society.
By participating, every runner and walker will concretely contribute to supporting the research activities of the Alma Mater, which is daily engaged in projects ranging from health to the environment, from social rights to energy, from technological development to culture.
A run open to everyone
The Bologna City Run is designed for anyone who wants to experience a collective experience of well-being and solidarity.
No specific athletic preparation is required: just a pair of comfortable shoes and the desire to run or walk together for a good cause.
The start is scheduled from Via Irnerio, arriving in the heart of Piazza Maggiore, the pulsating center of the event and home of the Marathon Village, animated by events, meetings and music throughout the weekend.
A weekend of sports and sharing
On Sunday, March 1, 2026, Bologna will host:
- Termal Bologna Marathon (42.195 km)
- 30 Km dei Portici
- Run Tune Up (21.097 km) – XXII edition
- City Run of 5 km
- Tigotà Kids Marathon (Saturday, February 28)
For the students of the Alma Mater, the “UNIBO 21K CHALLENGE” award returns, dedicated to the top three male and female finishers of the Run Tune Up with the best speed.
The awards ceremony will take place on the stage of Piazza Maggiore.
The words of the partners
“For us, it is an honor to support an event that is gradually entering the hearts of the Bolognese – declares Gian Luca Galletti, President of Emil Banca.
An event that reaffirms the importance of healthy lifestyles and allows us, with three days of celebration on the Crescentone, to promote our city and our excellences, introducing it to the many athletes who will come from all over Italy and abroad.”
